Quicke's Cheddar

The Quicke family have farmed at Newton St Cyres, just outside Exeter, for centuries, and their clothbound Cheddar carries that sense of continuity. It is gentler than the Somerset heavyweights: buttery and grassy, with a bright, almost lemony tang and a clean finish. Older wheels grow more savoury and crumbly. I reach for Quicke's when someone wants proper farmhouse Cheddar without being knocked sideways by it.
